CAMDEN, LONDON
GET TO KNOW US…
Blending raw garage-rock, explosive post-punk, and early-2000s indie attitude, Safe At Any Speed are quickly becoming one of London’s most thrilling live bands. With frontman Blake Miller — equal parts musician, model, and bleached James Dean — at the helm, they deliver a stylish and chaotic mix of timeless influences, earning praise from The Clash’s Paul Simonon, who called them “the future.”
The band began by self-producing tracks like the snarling “Mr Clean,” but their sound hit a new level working with Wolf Alice producer Michael Smith. Singles like “Waiting For A Train” and “Fire Walk With Me” show their range: from Stones-inspired swagger to cinematic, Lynchian storytelling. Their latest crowd-pleaser, “Terror Train Line,” channels Southern Gothic imagery and outlaw romance.
Blake’s lyrics reflect his literary influences — from Nick Cave and Bowie to Hemingway and Eliot — while the band’s chemistry is undeniable. Drummer Charles Mathias, guitarist Alec Stone, and bassist Henry Thompson (a former student of Bad Seed Mick Harvey) each bring personality and skill. Together, they’ve built a live reputation through explosive shows at venues like KOKO’s jazz bar and the Troubadour, where Simonon first saw them.
While modeling adds another layer to Blake’s world, music is the core. With a debut EP on the way and their roots firmly in gritty, poetic rock ‘n’ roll, Safe At Any Speed are a band in motion — leather-clad, literate, and racing toward something big.
